Ragnar the Reticent

£50.00

Ragnar the Reticent horse from Rättvik (in Dalarna) is quite a rare find. There are far fewer horses made in this ‘reticent’ style than in the more famous chunky kurbits-painted style from the village of Nusnäs.

What makes Ragnar more valuable is that he has a snowflake design on his front in addition to the ones on his flanks. This means he is pre-1980s as they started to omit this extra design then. The horses have been made by John Gudmunds in Rättvik since the 1950s and you can still buy them at the handicrafts store there,

This style horse in this size (17cm) without the snowflake are selling for £150 on Etsy.

Ragnar has a scratch on one side of his face but is otherwise in very good condition. He has no label on his tummy and hence the lower price.
